Haley - CH Irish's Majestic Maiden was chosen for the cover of the new edition of Chesapeake Bay Retriever Champions 2006 - 2010. It was a total surprise. The book publisher normally sells placement on the cover. This year no body paid for it so they just chose what they liked from all the photos that were submitted for other portions of the book. 2011 National Specialty News

Joshua Grandsons Win American & Canadian National Specialties This is kinda cool. We didn’t think about it or realize that the winners of the ACC NSS and the Canadian NSS this year are both Joshua grandsons, by 2 different sons. It only came to mind when a friend asked Gary if Joshua’s grandson won the Can NSS. When Gary said yes, she said oh, the dog from Sweden (BISS, SU(U)CH, NOUCH, SE VCH SV-09, AM GCH* Double Coat's Christmas Joy) won them both. Gary said no, he was talking about a different grandson – Ch. Mercer’s Non-Fiction. I guess it seems particularly special since this is the year we lost Joshua. Other ACC National Specialty News We didn’t do any big winning this year, but we did place 4 out of 5 class entries in the ribbons. Detroit Kennel Club 2010

The Road to Cobo Things were going smoothly this year the two weeks leading up to the Big Show. Too smoothly in fact, it was eerie. Seems like something always happens to put a monkey wrench to your plans. It looked like that wasn’t going to happen this year. Couldn’t have been more wrong. Every year we have many friends come and help us at our bench. Setting up, watching over dogs, handling if needed, setting out the luncheon, tearing down and packing to leave. Friends that have been coming every year for the past 15 – 20 years. They are a great help. Anyway, we get a call on Wednesday morning prior to the show weekend. Our friend Gordon and his son won’t be making it down. Gordon had fallen on the ice and a delayed injury occurred to his leg that was greatly hindering his ability to even walk. Wednesday evening when I had the dogs in getting them cleaned up for the show, I noticed a hint of ‘swimmers tail’ in Sadie. I gave her some aspirin just in case. By the next morning it was a full blown case. Started on pred in hopes of having the inflammation gone in time for the show. Friday on the way to Cobo, we get a call from our friends in Ohio. John had a bike accident and was in the hospital. Martha wasn’t sure if she would make it or not. We get to Cobo for set up. Oh no!.....forgot the center support for our big display. Friends helped us brainstorm and it all worked out, minus one flying decoy. Show days are here. Martha worked it out and made it to the show. Sadie’s tail was good, but the side effects of the meds she had through Friday, had her all geeked up and very on edge. Really showed up in the ring, downright embarrassing but she still managed to place 3rd both days. Three Man must have played too hard, and was limping the whole time he was in the ring. The rest of our Dog Family did well that weekend. Saturday Bob finished his title going WD then onto BOW. Jake went BOS. The Mercer’s from North Shore Kennels in Canada brought three of Three Man’s kids over that they bred out of their Tess. They were in the 6-9 division. The female Shelia, was awarded Best Puppy on Saturday. Come Sunday, it was her brothers’ turn. Jack went Best in Sweeps and Owen went BOW from the Puppy Class. Our Foreman was RWD at 13 months from the BBE class. Cindy Franklins Dakota (Joshua daughter, bred by Cindy) went Best in Veteran Sweepstakes. The grandkids made a showing too in RWB and Brace winner. Congratulations to all those in the ribbons!! I hope to have some photos posted soon.

American Chesapeake Club National Specialty 2009

The ACC National Specialty was held the first weekend of October in Wilmington, OH. We didn't take any of the big winnings but we are happy with the performance of our dogs. Overall our breeding took first place in the 6-9 puppy dog class, second place in the 12-18 month dog class, third place in the bred-by exhibitor bitch class, fourth in the veteran sweepstakes 10 year and over bitch class. The male special we had entered made the first round of cuts putting him in top 24 males entered. That's not too bad considering the judge said that he showed up in his underwear (meaning he was out of coat). Results for all conformation judging.

She broke her own vertical best this last weekend. She jumped 6' in UV. Right now she has a UKC UJJ Title (United Junior Jumper) and a UKC USUV Title (United Supreme Ultimate Vertical). She has some legs toward a Senior Title and I'm working on finishing that. Sage is getting better and more confident all of the time.

She tied for 1st in the junior division at 5'2". There are only 2 divisions, Junior and Ultimate. Sage has filled out nicely and her temperament is great. I couldn't ask for a more perfect companion.
