IRISH'S CUCHULAIN CHIEFTAIN CGC TDI
(HRCH, Ch. Irish's Hard Chargin St. Pete SH x Ch. Irish's Royal Princess Ashly)
'Cullen'

Co-owned with John Meeker & Martha Jewell.
A few words they wrote about him....
Cullen was named after the Bronze Age Warrior Hero of the Irish Celtic epics. He was Martha Anne's stalwart companion. Whatever she was doing, driving, or cooking he was there. He was in fact, the house sous-chef. As such, he had his own staff in his stuffed toy companions, which he knew by name, and were arranged by rank around his bed. Like many Chessies, he had of strong sense of things being 'right and in order'.
He thought ahead and knew our habits, sensing our intentions seemingly before we did. You see, humans were his 'area of study'. He got along fine with well-mannered dogs, but was quite intolerant of disorderly conduct and rowdy behavior, whether human or canine. However, he had a sense of humor, and you could see the laughter in his demeanor when he'd ìcracked a jokeî.
Cullen was a workman on waterfowl, could shove a pheasant along, and knew the other assorted game birds, but his true intoxication and love was woodcock. When he struck that scent he slammed onto it, and thereafter floated along in its wake somewhat like an intoxicated cartoon dog, gliding along with feet barely brushing the ground. Even when he grew gray and a bit gimpy, his favorite woodcock grounds peeled away the years for a good evening's flight.
He spent his retirement years very close to Martha Anne, who became his 'special human' and shared therewith, a sweet simpatico relationship. His passing left a sorrow that is now overshadowed by his life, and his memory. Upon his bier were his most beloved companions, his last meal, and prized trophies plundered from the humans. ìAve, Cullen!î, our hero warrior. We loved you well.
~
For our part, Cullen was a dog that by no fault of his own, never earned his title. It was probably just a combination of timing, distance and life events. He sired one litter for us that produced group winning Jake - GCH** Irish's Master Jake. In fact Jake was the only one from that litter that went to a show home. So I guess we can't complain about Cullen's stats as a sire. Certainly looking back, it's one of those should of could of times.....
